WIP Wednesday

That's me...a work in progress.  Who knows what I am supposed to be doing?  Not me...But in that light, I start school today.  Not super excited.  Really, I'm just super tired.  ;)

But I do have a fun WIP to share today.

I made a patchwork quilt top from two Riley Blake charm packs (collection- Sidewalks).

Forgive the wrinkles.  Apparently, if you fold something up for a weekend, it needs to be ironed afterwards.

The top is currently 40.5 x 45.  I added a few solids in, to make it a rectangle.
I just wanted something simple and cute to make.  I love it so far.

Isn't this fabric adorable!!!!  Perfect for a baby, or toddler, quilt.  Really it would be cute as a baby bag, baby cloths...anything.

Now I just have to get backing.  I was going to go with a super soft rose minky that I had on hand.

But I don't have enough.  Isn't that the pits??  *sigh
I thought about going out to get more, but Pink Castle Fabrics was (is? not sure) have a Skinny Bolt sale (SKINNY20).  There are three fabrics from this line in the sale, so I just bought bit and am waiting on it for the backing.   Can't wait to get it in!

Can you piece minky?  I'm not sure.  What would you do with left-over minky?

4 Days...

Including today.  Yikes.

I have been meaning to blog all week...but life happened.  I have been working a bit more this week than normal (yay!) and haven't finished my handmade gifts (oops).
I am almost finished with my space invaders quilt:

This is the last pic I took of the back...not where I am now, promise.  ( You can see a previous post here)

My Virtual Quilting Bee quilt just needs to be basted, quilted, and bound. (sorry no pic...you can see previous posts here and here)

I just need to baste, quilt and bind my Chirstmas Zig-Zag...but it has the lowest priority, so it may not get done until 2014.

The crochet stockings are all granny-squared, but now I have to stitch the grannys together...somebody tell me I can do all this by Tuesday.  (deep breath)

That being said.  I have been busy.  We made holiday crafts with the babies and toddlers at work:

I made Christmas cookies for my father's work cookie exchange (I may have kept a few):
I like sprinkles...can you tell?

I made infinity scarves for gifts (I may have kept a few of those too):

I used silky fabric from JoAnn's.  2 yards - cut at the fold and sewed it together in a tube.  Super quick...once I figured out what I was doing.  The silky fabric was pretty horrible to work with...but the scarves turned out nicely.  Next time I might try cotton voile.

I also made Alcohol Ink Coasters:

Only two of them matched.  I was having so much fun making new colors palates.  ;)  So I gave the matching two away as Christmas gifts already.

Also, my Wonky Star Pillow got featured on Quilt Story's Fabric Tuesday post this week! Thanks Heather and Meg!

So that was my week.
Now I just have to finish a quilt top (today), baste and quilt two quilts (by Tuesday), bind two quilts (by Thursday - whoop I get an extra day), and finish those crochet stockings (you know... last week, lol).  I am so glad I have a mother to rope into helping me at the last minute!

What was your week like?  Ready for Christmas? Or just ready for a break?

Workin' It

WIP that is...

This is what my table looks like right now:

Crazy, right?  Well that's me right now.  Too many sewing projects on the left and too much homework on the right.  I have multiple things in various stages of "being made."

Still playing with the Virtual Quilting be blocks.  You can read the previous post about them here.

My nephew's (hopefully Christmas gift) quilt is getting some blocks made for the back.  I don't know why I have to try and design backs sometimes - those blocks are 1.5 inches finished.  I'm a nut.  You can read the previous post about his quilt here.

I am making two of my nieces scrappy doll quilts for their baby dolls.  I wanted to use every last scrap of that Oh Deer! fabric.  Good news - all I have to do to these is quilt them and bind, then I'll be done.

I'm making myself a holiday quilt...It's gonna be huge.  Opps.

After making the Cathedral Window Pillow Cover, I just had to make a holiday pillow cover too!  It's also practice for my niece's quilt that I won't have a chance at starting on till the new year.  But...I just had to practice these blocks!

I am trying to make something small with my hexagons - but they are so low on my list right now.

And then I made a 1600 quilt top...then designed a back that I have yet to piece.  Oh well.  If I get it done by the holidays it will make a great gift for somebody.

The other day while I was supposed to be studying for a test (which I made an A on - whew) I made this list of things I want to make or need to finish:

Above the line is supposed to be before the new year, mostly before the winter holidays.  We shall see.  Lets hope God gives me the strength.  :)  The bottom half is my crazy "bucket list" for 2014.  I Just keep seeing new things or dreaming up new quilts.
Have a great day everyone! (And maybe pray for my sanity)

WIP

*warning: this post is picture filled ;)

I have no finishes...just tons of WIPs (Works in Progress).  When I first stared quilting (oh, 2ish years ago), I was a "work on one thing at a time" kinda girl.  But now...not so much.  There are just so many things that I want to try, I may be developing "crafter's ADD."  Most of my WIPs I would love to have completed by the winter months (i.e. Christmas - several are supposed to be gifts).

Not a gift, but it would be nice if I got around to quilting it.

We've got some new kids around here who need stockings.

Christmas ZigZag quilt

Space Invaders for the nephew...haven't even started on the back.  EEK!

Virtual Quilting Bee Blocks
1600 quilt

Learning the art of Cathedral Windows

Trying my hand at English Paper Piecing

Fabric Polaroid Swap

So many projects...so little time.  School work calls to me - but hopefully I will have a finish to share soon!

Toodles!
