A Blue Discovery

I have a FINISH!!!  It seems like it has been so long, I have been dancing since I tied off the thread on my binding.

Here is Blue Discovery:

After piecing the front with green sashing - because I thought it would make all of my other prints pop - my father promptly told me he hated the green.  I told him it was good it wasn't for him.  However, I did choose only blues for the backing.  I purchased all of the fabrics from JoAnn's.  It was fun making my first lattice quilt.
I have always referred to this quilt as my "blue quilt"  because all of the blocks are blue, or have nice blues in them.  The name of the quilt came from both that and the book I was listening to while cutting and piecing the front.  The book is titled "A Discovery of Witches."  Not my typical read, but oh MY, it was fabulous.  This book was so good that I was sad when it was over and am too scared to read the second book since the third (and final book) has not been completed.  Sad, right?
Anyway, Blue Discovery was born.

I will be linking up with Fabric Tuesday  over at Quilt Story, Needle and Thread Thursday at My Quilt Infatuation, and Finish It Up Friday at Crazy Mom Quilts.

A special thanks to my photo helper - Asher (nephew), who helped me layout the quilt and take the photos.

Can't wait to wash/dry and lay this quilt out on my bed!

Have a wonderful Wednesday!!

  2. I like the quilt a lot, including the blue and green. And your helper is dressed to coordinate! The large blocks showcase the fabric well.

    1. Thanks! I was originally going to go with a slightly larger block, but decided to stick with an 8x8 cause it was a bit easier for me.
      My helper was pretty awesome!!

    1. Thanks, Sam! Blue and green have always been my favorite colors. I was so surprised when my dad said he didn't like the green. Lol. He must just be silly. And color-blind. :)

    1. Thanks, Kim! I debated on the navy thread or going with a green to fade into the sashing. I decided I wanted it to stand out!

    1. Thanks! That binding fabric is one that I used in the blocks of the quilt too. It is actually the fabric purchase that made me want to make this quilt. Then JoAnn's ran out (cause I didn't originally know that I would want to bind in that print) and I had to get the yardage to bind the quilt in Washington State!

    1. Blue and Green have always been my favorite colors. So I was super excited to make this quilt. My nephew says the back makes the quilt reversible. lol
Hopefully I will be able to add something else to NTT soon!
Also, I believe I fixed my No-reply blogger. I thought I had already taken care of that, but I must have messed it up when I changed to Google +. Thanks so much for the tutorial site and for letting me know!!

  9. Hey Katelyn, I also wanted to let you know that you're a no-reply blogger. Unfortunately it's the default setting. There's a great tutorial on Fluster Buster on how to fix it!

  10. I agree - I love the green too. It really makes those other fabrics pop! The quilting in the dark blue thread looks great on there too. Nice finish!
